Elizabeth Foster Maquette

This is my latest maquette. She is Elizabeth Foster, the Vampire Queen and sire of Vincent Welles from my comic book series The Vampire Mouse. She is my first female maquette, and she is definitely one of my favorite maquettes. I had some difficulty with her pose in the beginning because originally she was supposed to have her arms crossed, a pose that she does a lot in the comics, but I couldn't get it right that I decided to change it to the second common pose that she has, and I think that this pose is much better. More attitude.

I use a very specific way of painting my maquettes, which was taught to me by one of my professors at SCAD Atlanta. It involves working from dark to light, but black was a problem for me. What colors can you put on top of black? When I did the Vincent Welles Maquette I kept it as pure black, but I finally solved the problem here. I painted dark gray over the black. It seemed so relatively simple, but it took until my fifth maquette to figure it out.
